Bouraine Bird, This is an 'all time great' and true Art Deco designed piece, signed by M.Bouraine. c.1920. This mascot won the 1920 premier gold award for mascots at Concourse De l'Auto, in Paris in 1920. Exceptionally rare, and one of my personal favourite mascots of all time. Photographed and described in Michel Legrand book 'Mascottes Passion' Plate 499. Also depicted in Mascottes Automobiles, Mascottes Fantaisies de 1910-1953, by Michel Legrand, plate 597. Five versions were made, one in nickel bronze c.1929 with nickel beak, another with ivory beak, one with cold painted decoration and ivory beak, another slightly earlier example in c.1920 in natural bronze with ivory beak and glass eyes. This example is the rarest of them all and the deluxe c. 1920 variation.

Condition :
Wonderful patination, largest version, finished in heavy bronze, still amazingly intact with the original glass eyes. Normal ivory age stress lines, and a few surface scratches and nicks to the bronze that only 80 years honest use can bring, giving this piece great character. Display base mounted. Condition commensurate with the age of the piece.
