1929 Lalique Swallow Car Mascot, Hood Ornament
(Move down to see further photographs)

French Name : Hirondelle
Swallow, clear and frosted glass mascot by René Lalique. 'R.Lalique France' relief moulded signature at rear of base. This is a totally correct LALIQUE CAR MASCOT, in that Lalique themselves mounted the mascot on their own illuminated mounting base. This is NOT the later paperweight version produced as number 1951 and 11-851. This magnificent piece is complete with its totally original Lalique illuminated car mount. It is extremely rare to find this mascot complete with its exceptionally rare totally original mounting, and even rarer to find it in such fine condition.

This type of mounting was first designed on 22 January 1929 at 15.59pm, delivered on 1st July 1929, and commercially released on 24th October 1929. This was the smaller size base that Lalique made for the range of smaller mascots, and an Archer is shown in the original Lalique artwork. Note that this work was then passed to Breves Gallery who later designed their own styles for illuminated mountings in both sizes.
