(Move down to see further photographs)
French Name : Danaïdes
Six female nude maidens pouring cascades of water from their urns. Spectacularly created using six totally different female poses. A most exceptional and beautifully designed early vase by René Lalique. Finished in fabulous deep blue/white opalescent glass. Stencilled mark R.Lalique, France under the base. Very few examples of this vase exist today in frosted glass, even fewer were created with this amazing depth of opalescence. This piece will remain a thing of timeless beauty forever, a true 'Work of Art'. Created from the fertile mind of the greatest Art Deco glass designer the world has ever known - René Lalique.
First Introduced : 16 March 1926       Catalogue No. : 972       Dimension : 185mm high, 105mm outside base diameter, 120mm inside top rim diameter.
Condition : In absolutely pristine condition. Usually the base and top lip have been chipped and restored. This vase has not suffered from chips, grinding or any restoration whatsoever. There are also no water lines or lime scale build up inside the vase or any internal mould flaws or air bubbles inside the glass. The depth of opalescence is strong, even and the transition from the blue to the white is simply perfect. The feel of the glass is the most wonderful satiny velvet texture, which no photograph could ever portray - feeling is believing. The cascading water line moulding, body and facial details are all well defined and truly exceptional. So many of these vases have been seen with chips or a small amount of restoration on them, totally ruining the fabulous cascading water effect. Usual surface scratches under the base, actually enhancing the total originality of this example, simply caused from the careful passing of over 75 years honest use.
