1930 Lalique Coupe Calypso Opalescent Glass Dish
(Move down to see further photographs)
French Name : Coupe Calypso
Gigantic dish, with five sensuous mermaids swimming and cavorting with swirls of sea bubbles surrounding them. Stencilled 'R.LALIQUE, FRANCE' in centre of base. The blue opalescence is especially deep, with a fabulous depth of predominant blue. The definition and beauty depicted from within the nude figures is absolutely devastating - they seem totally lifelike, an ideal example to show off René Lalique's true mastery of opalescent glass production techniques.
